  1. Philip Robert Schroedel 1861-1933

Philip was a paper carrier at age 18, and then helped his brothers start the news agency. At age 25, he was a grocer. By age 38, he had become a gas inspector.

In 1910, the family lived at 35 Enfield Street. By 1926, arund his retirement age, the family moved to a farm at Conneaut Lake in Crawford County, Pennsylvania, which was a resort destination, known for an amusement park and boating.

  2. Anna Luella Vineyard 1865-1935

Charles was a rolling mill turner early in his life. He became an itinerant Methodist minister, and sold insurance. On his death certificate, his occupation was described as "Finance."

He travelled moved often. In 1893, just after marriage, he lived in Warren, Trumbull, Ohio; in 1894, Montreal, Quebec, Canada; in 1896, Cambridge, Lamoille, Vermont; in 1900, St. Louis, Missouri; in 1910, Pittsburgh, Allegheny, Pennsylvania; in 1912, Salem, Virginia; in 1918, Pittsburgh again; by the end of his life, Chicago.

Chief of police in Shenandaoh; later special officer for Lehigh Valley Railroad. Parent's names on CoD.

    Baptism record; located in 1880, 1900, 1910 censuses. (1920?)

  16. Mary Alice Gilbert 1870-1947

Sarah Edna Fry's Marriage certificate gives parents names as John and Mary Laudig. Mary Alice's death certificate, reported by Edna Stauffenberg, gives Mary's parents names as John Gilbert and Malissa Reichart. (Her obituary also gives maiden name as Gilbert.)

By all appearances, John and Malissa did not have a daughter named Mary or Alice. Living next door to them in 1880 Census is Jacob C. Laudig and Delilah Reichart, with a daughter Alice of appropriate age.

There seems to have been close ties between these families. I am preferring the names on the marriage record here since they do seem to fit.

Complicating the situation is the fact that there is another Alice Laudig, but she was born later.

Generation 9

  1. William Burnett (Harrington?) 1771-1863

Born in New Jersey, migrated to Ohio through Pennsylvania. According to A. C. Burnett, he had 24 children. At the time of his death, he was the oldest man in Brookfield, Trumbull, Ohio.

    His parentage is unclear.

Alvin Orlando Burnett in 1941 says that William Burnett's original name was William Harrington, and he was adopted, and a nephew of Edmund and Enos Burnett. Possibly, Grace Burnett was his mother. This is disputed, and other sources say he was a brother. He was certainly connected to Edmund and Enos in some way.

There is a reference to Dr. William Russell Macalaster Burnet (1730-1791) as an uncle to Edmund & Enos. If this is true, it would seem their grandfather was Dr. Ichabod Burnett of New Jersey. Other sources identify Matthias Burnett, who married Dorcas Conger, as Edmund's father. This is also disputed, with others saying Edmund was the son of Silas and Mary Burnett. That Edmund was baptized 8 May 1757 by Rev. Caleb Smith. (Our William also had a son named Silas.)

Y-DNA results show a connection to the family of William Davis, which seems to be of Welsh origin. The William Davis clan had left Rhode Island and lived in Shrewsbury, NJ from 1745 to 1787, so the Davises and the Burnets were in the same vicinity around the time William (Harrington?) Burnet was born.
